WHY? LEADERS SAY THEY’RE TRYING AGAIN. FIRST, AT 11. A MAJOR HOTEL PROJECT IN TRAVELERS REST WAS OFFICIALLY VOTED DOWN THIS EVENING. TRAVELERS REST COUNCIL MEMBERS OFFICIALLY DENIED THE INN AT ALTAMONT PROJECT, A PROJECT THAT HAS FACED PUSHBACK FROM DAY ONE. OUR NATE STANLEY WAS THERE TONIGHT AND JOINS US LIVE WITH THE DETAILS. NATE. WELL, COUNCIL MEMBERS SAY THEY STILL WANT TO SEE DEVELOPMENT WITHIN CITY LIMITS, BUT DID ULTIMATELY VOTE TO VETO THE HOTEL PLANS TONIGHT. AFTER THAT, PUBLIC PUSHBACK. ALL OPPOSED TO MOVING IT FORWARD TO THE FULL COUNCIL. THANK YOU. WITH THAT, A MONTHS LONG DEBATE ABOUT THE FUTURE OF PARIS MOUNTAIN WAS DECIDED. TRAVELERS REST CITY COUNCIL VOTED DOWN AN ANNEXATION REQUEST THAT WOULD HAVE PUT A FOUR STAR LUXURY HOTEL ALONG ALTAMONT ROAD. THIS WAS THE FIRST AND ONLY NORTH GREENVILLE COUNTY IN LODGE, WITH LODGING ROOMS AND INDOOR AND OUTDOOR SPACE FOR BUSINESS RETREATS, EVENTS, MEETINGS, CELEBRATIONS, ALL INCLUDING A BALLROOM, DINING AND SPA. AVAILABILITY. IT MAKES TR A DESTINATION FOR BUSINESS MEETINGS, EVENTS, BUSINESS RETREATS. MONDAY WAS THE FIRST TIME THE FULL CITY COUNCIL WAS IN THE ROOM TO DISCUSS THE PLANS, AFTER PUSHBACK FROM PEOPLE LIVING ALONG PARIS MOUNTAIN. THE DISCUSSION LASTED OVER AN HOUR WITH DEVELOPER KRUT PATEL TAKING QUESTIONS FROM THE COUNCIL. QUESTION NUMBER TWO TO ME AGAIN. DOES IT FIT THE SURROUNDING LAND USE? I’M HAVING A HARD TIME WITH THAT. THIS ISN’T ABOUT STOPPING GROWTH. IT IS ABOUT SMART GROWTH DEVELOPMENT THAT HONORS THE LAND AND MEETS THE REAL NEEDS OF PEOPLE WHO CALL THIS AREA HOME. THE DIVINE GROUP SENT US A STATEMENT THAT READS IN PART. WE’RE DISAPPOINTED BY TONIGHT’S OUTCOME, BUT PROUD OF THE VISION THAT WAS PUT FORWARD. THIS PROJECT FOLLOWED THE HARDER PATH PURSUING ANNEXATION AND PUBLIC ENGAGEMENT, BECAUSE WE BELIEVE THEY REPRESENTED THE HIGHEST AND BEST USE OF OUR PROPERTY, ONE THAT WOULD PRESERVE GREEN SPACE, PROTECT VIEWSHEDS, CREATE JOBS, AND DELIVER LASTING VALUE TO THE COMMUNITY. NATE, DID THE DEVELOPERS HINT AT ANY FUTURE PLANS WITH THAT PROPERTY AFTER TONIGHT’S DECISION? WELL, IN THAT STATEMENT, THE DEVINE GROUP SAYS THEY DO PLAN ON PURSUING DEVELOPMENT ON THEIR PROPERTY. BUT WE ARE TOLD THAT MORE INFORMATION WOULD BE AVAILABLE SOMETIME IN THE FUTURE. REPORTIN
